In a recent development, President Donald Trump has decided to end Dr. Anthony Fauci's security detail provided by the National Institutes of Health. This action took place on Thursday evening, leaving Fauci to personally cover the costs of his own private security, as he continues to receive threats due to his prominent role in the Covid-19 pandemic responses. This move is part of a broader pattern where Trump has been targeting officials who previously served under him. Similarly, former national security adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have also lost their security details. This chain of events follows Trump's criticism of President Joe Biden's decision to preemptively pardon Fauci. Biden had stated that even when individuals haven't done anything wrong and might ultimately be exonerated, the process of being investigated or prosecuted can severely damage their reputations and finances. Fauci, a long-serving government official and the nation's top infectious diseases expert for 38 years, has unfortunately found himself at the center of these controversial changes. Fauci was among the 52 people honored with presidential commendations for their work on the Operation Warp Speed task force during the pandemic. However, Trump later distanced himself from this recognition, claiming he wasn't aware of who gave it to them.
