Sexual Violence in Ethiopia’s Conflicts: Numbers and Risk Factors
EthiopiaSunday, June 21, 2026
Key factors that raise the risk include living in a city, having no formal schooling, being 24 years old or younger, and lacking solid social support. Women in urban areas were about one and a half times more likely to experience violence, while those with no education were nearly twice as vulnerable. Younger women faced the highest danger, with odds more than double compared to older peers.
The findings highlight that sexual violence remains a pressing issue in Ethiopia’s war zones. Protecting victims requires stronger safety measures, psychological help, community outreach, and educational programs to reduce the chance of abuse.
