Snares of Fear: A Thai Woman's Encounter with a Constricting Python

In a shocking incident, a 64-year-old Thai woman, Arom Arunroj, found herself in a desperate struggle for survival when a massive python wrapped itself around her torso in her kitchen. The four-to-five-meter-long (13-to-16-foot-long) reticulated python had been hiding in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. As Arom prepared to do her evening dishes, the snake swiftly bit her thigh, squeezing her down to the floor.

Arom recalled the terrifying moment, saying, "I was about to scoop some water and when I sat down, it bit me immediately. When I looked, I saw the snake wrapping around me." Despite her best efforts to free herself, the python only tightened its grip. She grabbed the snake's head, but it refused to release her. The python, a non-venomous constrictor, had Arom trapped for nearly two hours before a neighbor happened to hear her screams and alerted the authorities. Responding police officers and animal control officers used a crowbar to hit the snake on the head, eventually releasing their grip. Arom was treated for several bites and appeared to be otherwise unharmed.
