The big winter storm that dumped more than two feet of snow in several states is now moving out toward Canada, leaving the Northeast with gusty winds that will fade by day.  

Yet the forecast warns that snow is not finished yet.  AccuWeather says more snowfall could hit the region this week as people begin to clear the first storm’s drifts.  

A “clipper” system is expected to sweep across the Great Lakes on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a narrow band of snow from northern Minnesota to New England.  In the south—places like Washington, Philadelphia and New York City—the mix of snow and rain will be common.  By Wednesday night, heavy snowfall should end over the lakes, but snow showers may spread northward into the Mid‑Atlantic and Northeast.  Even streets that look clear could be covered again, especially from Pennsylvania to Maine.  New York City might see about one to two inches of snow from this clipper.

Later in the week, another storm is likely to bring more wintry weather across much of the Northeast.  Snow will fall north of the storm track, while a mix of sleet or freezing rain could hit areas just south of that line.  The exact path is still uncertain, but the system should reach the eastern U. S. on Thursday night, with cold air supporting a stripe of snow to the north.  On the southern edge, precipitation could be a blend of rain, snow and ice.

In early March, another potential wintry event could affect the mid‑Mississippi Valley through the Mid‑Atlantic and Northeast between March 2 and 3.  The type of precipitation—snow, sleet or freezing rain—and the amounts are not yet clear.
