Snow Storms Hit Hard, Stranding Many

Winter has really shown its teeth this time! A harsh Arctic blast is ready to dump more snow on the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. This isn't just any ordinary snowfall; it's causing major transport issues and leaving thousands of people stuck. Lake Erie's downwind areas are still experiencing lake effect snow, and it's expected to last until Wednesday. But wait, there's more! A strong clipper storm is coming in from Quebec on Thursday, which will bring heavy snow to Michigan, according to the National Weather Service. This storm will also affect the interior Northeast and New England, and it might even intensify snowfall in areas near the Great Lakes. Some regions could see up to 12 inches of snow! Meanwhile, other areas are feeling the freeze, with temperatures dropping 10 to 15 degrees below the usual seasonal averages in the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions. In Pennsylvania, homes and cars were buried under more than five feet of snow, leading to chaos on the roads.

On Monday, there was a major crash on Interstate 94 near Hartford, Van Buren County, involving 14 passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks. One driver suffered critical injuries. The roads were a mess, with long tailbacks as the snow continued to fall. Erie, Pennsylvania, was also hit hard. Drivers were seen digging out their cars from more than a foot of snow. Some videos showed cars completely buried, with drivers trying to move them despite the heavy snow on their windshields. Erie Police responded to 92 cases of streets blocked by abandoned cars and urged drivers to stay off the roads. The weight of the snow even caused a livestock barn's roof to collapse in Arkwright, New York, killing five cows and injuring 100 others. It's a tough time for everyone, with lake effect snow warnings in place until 7 p. m. ET Tuesday.
