Social Media and Political Violence: A Gender-Based Analysis in Argentina

In Argentina, the rise of new right-wing parties has shaken up the political landscape, with some of these figures gaining popularity through social media. This platform has become a breeding ground for hate speech, especially against women politicians. Recent research combined quantitative and qualitative methods to examine this issue. The study found that right-wing politicians and their supporters are major contributors to hate speech online. Conversely, left-wing women are often the targets of such harsh language. The analysis also introduced a model to predict users' political leanings based on their profile descriptions, offering insight into how hate speech is distributed across different political views. This research sheds light on the troubling connection between political affiliations and the spread of hateful content.
