Softball and Baseball: Tuesday's Big Wins and Wednesday's Matchups

It was a big day for Cathedral High School on May 13th. Both their softball and baseball teams secured conference titles. The softball team improved their record to 17-1 with an 8-3 victory over Pierz. This win was crucial as it sealed the Granite Ridge Conference title for Cathedral. The baseball team also clinched their conference title with a dominant performance. The softball team's success was not just about the win. Berkley Mathisen had a standout performance on the mound. She allowed only one earned run and gave up just five hits over the entire game. Her effort was a key factor in the team's victory. The offense was also strong, with players like Sadie Meyer, Kyah Koenig, Keira Alexander, and CJ Jerzak each contributing with two hits apiece. Other softball games on Tuesday saw some exciting results. Pequot Lakes had a strong day, defeating Albany twice. Sartell also had a clean sweep, shutting out Alexandria 6-0. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Holdingford had a back-and-forth battle, each winning one game. Melrose showed dominance with two wins over Benson. Kimball, Royalton, ROCORI, and Brainerd all secured victories in their respective matches.

The baseball scene was equally competitive. Albany edged out Eden Valley-Watkins in a close 5-4 game. Brainerd and Sartell had a back-and-forth series, each winning one game. Holdingford, Royalton, Sauk Rapids-Rice, Cathedral, St. Francis, and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle all came out on top in their matches. Looking ahead to Wednesday, May 14th, several key games are scheduled. Willmar will face Sartell in a softball match at 1:30 PM. Cambridge-Isanti and Sauk Rapids-Rice will also face off at 3 PM. Moorhead will take on Sartell at 4 PM, and ROCORI will challenge Cathedral at the same time. In baseball, ROCORI will travel to Alexandria for a 6:30 PM game. The upcoming matches promise more excitement and competition. Fans can expect to see more intense performances from the teams.
