Solana Prepares for Quantum Future with New Signature Tech

San Francisco, CA, USA,Monday, April 27, 2026

Solana’s team is already planning for the future when quantum computers could compromise current cryptographic methods. They have chosen Falcon, a new digital signature that resists quantum attacks, and both major groups on the network—Anza and Jump Crypto’s Firedancer—have independently adopted it. Early versions of Falcon are already under test.

The network is engineered for speed and low latency, so adding heavier cryptographic tools could pose challenges. Solana asserts that a transition to quantum‑safe methods can occur with minimal performance impact. The rollout will proceed in stages:

  1. Research – Deep analysis and testing of quantum‑resistant schemes.
  2. Wallet Integration – Introduction of new wallets that employ post‑quantum cryptography.
  3. Existing Wallet Updates – Gradual upgrade of current wallets to support Falcon.

Other parts of the Solana ecosystem are also getting ready. Blueshift offers a quantum‑resistant tool, the Winternitz Vault, which has been operational for over two years. Google Quantum AI recently highlighted it as a solid example.

Solana acknowledges that quantum computers pose a real threat but believes the risk is still far off. The foundation states its plans are well‑studied, understood, and ready for deployment when the time arrives. No immediate changes will occur; progress will be incremental as research advances.
