Song Blockage on YouTube: A Dispute Between Music Giants
United States, USASunday, September 29, 2024
SESAC's main job is to help songwriters protect their original work and collect royalties. However, YouTube and SESAC have been unable to reach an agreement on renewal terms, which has led to the blockage of public performances of these songs. This is not the first time that a dispute like this has occurred. Earlier this year, Universal Music Group had a similar issue with TikTok, which resulted in the removal of four million songs from the platform.
Many fans have taken to social media to express their frustration about being unable to stream their favorite tunes. YouTube has acknowledged the issue and stated that it is working on reaching a renewal agreement with SESAC. The company has also reassured fans that it is "continuing" discussions with the performance rights organization.
