Soul Music Legend Sam Moore Passes Away at 89

Sam Moore, the high-pitched half of the legendary 1960s soul duo Sam & Dave, has sadly left us at the age of 89. His publicist confirmed that he passed away in Coral Gables, Florida, following complications from surgery. Moore, along with his partner Dave Prater, made a huge impact on the music scene with hits like "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Comin'. " Born in Miami, Moore started singing in church before meeting Prater in 1961. Together, they became a hit in soul and R&B clubs. Their big break came in 1965 when they were signed to Atlantic Records and sent to the Stax subsidiary in Memphis. There, they worked with the legendary team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter, and the band Booker T. & the MGs, creating some of soul music's most enduring hits.

Despite their success, the duo faced challenges. Moore struggled with addiction and the band broke up in 1970. However, Moore continued to perform and even recorded a new version of "Soul Man" with the Blues Brothers in the late 1970s.
