A Weekly Gathering of Sports Enthusiasts

What started as a small group of friends talking sports has grown into a lively weekly gathering of nearly 30 members at Highlands at Wyomissing Retirement Community.

More Than Just Sports

Frank Gutekunst, who now leads the group, says it's about more than just sports.

"It's a chance to connect with people on a deeper level."

The group welcomes anyone who wants to join, whether they want to share their opinions or just listen. They even invite local student-athletes to speak, creating meaningful conversations that go beyond sports.

The Founders' Vision

The group's founder, Tom Allmon, and his wife Nancy, remember how supportive everyone was when they first started.

"It wasn't just about sports," Nancy says. "It was about getting to know people."

A Diverse and Inclusive Group

The group's diversity is one of its strengths. Members research and learn about different sports, broadening their knowledge and appreciation. They even joke around, with a sign on one table reading, "1-800 What Would Nancy Do," a nod to Nancy Allmon's guidance.

A Cherished Tradition

For many members, the weekly Sports Talk is a highlight of their week. It's a chance to connect, learn, and enjoy each other's company. What started as a simple conversation has become a cherished tradition, showing how sports can bring people together in unexpected ways.
