The show's popularity is global. It topped the charts in 92 out of 93 countries listed by Netflix. The only exception was the United States, where football took the top spots.
The release of season two also boosted viewing of season one. It climbed back to third place among non-English language series with 8. 1 million views.
The new season picks up two years after the first, with the main character Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) returning to the game to find and confront those responsible. The show's creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has plans for a third season, expected to premiere next year.
