Ren booked a long-term Airbnb in Washington D. C. , but his first booking was canceled. Airbnb helped find another place with a slight discount, but Ren soon realized the new neighborhood was dangerous. He found out that there were high murder and auto theft rates, and even news articles mentioned his street by name. Ren felt unsafe and wanted a refund. Airbnb's support didn't really care about the neighborhood, saying they only focus on the place itself. Ren should have checked the neighborhood before accepting the new rental. Some Airbnb listings don't show the address until after booking, but it's usually possible to cancel with a full refund if the area is unsafe. Ren's interactions with Airbnb showed he repeatedly mentioned feeling unsafe and wanted a refund, but an Airbnb representative just repeated his complaint without helping. Airbnb shouldn't offer homes in unsafe areas. Eventually, Ren talked to Airbnb on the phone and got a partial refund. A consumer advocacy site helped push for a full refund.
