Sticks and Carrots for Iran
WASHINGTON, USAFriday, February 7, 2025
Given that Trump is not a fan of regime change, diplomacy seems to be the best option for dealing with Iran instead of military force. But getting to the table is the first step, and the rest is hard. The first time, the maximum pressure policy failed because Trump's administration didn't have reasonable goals. So Trump needs to come up with a new strategy and commit to it.
Trump is now carrying a big nuclear problem in his lap. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the Iranians are speeding up the production of 60 percent enriched uranium, which is close to what is needed for a bomb.
Trump seems to be the only one willing to talk to Iran. This strategy has had some success in the past. The US has used economic sanctions and diplomatic pressure to convince Iran to return to the negotiating table.
The road to peace with Iran has a lot of obstacles, but there is hope. Trump's administration needs to change its strategy if it wants to see results. It needs to offer Iran an agreement that is fair to both sides and put aside its idealistic goals. If the US and Iran want to avoid a fight, they need to find a way to compromise.
The US has used the maximum pressure policy in the past, but it has not been successful. Iran is producing more uranium, and the situation is getting worse. The US needs to find a new way to deal with Iran.
Iran's situation has been bad but is getting worse, and it's still a problem for the world. The US needs to find a way to talk to Iran so they can work together to solve their problems.
