Typhoon Kong-rey is heading towards Taiwan, and it's got something unusual—a massive eye. This isn't just any storm; it's been packing winds up to 150 mph, making it a super typhoon. But what's the deal with this huge eye? Meteorologist Noah Bergren from Florida noticed it and called it one of the largest he's ever seen. But does a big eye mean the storm is stronger? Not necessarily, says Alan Reppert, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather. He explains that it just means the winds are spread out more. Older, stronger storms often have wider eyes. Kong-rey is expected to hit Taiwan's southeast coast early Thursday morning, with winds around 75 mph. Before that, it might bring heavy rain and strong winds up to 140 mph to southern Taiwan. Eastern China and Japan might also see heavy rain as the storm moves north. This typhoon is unusual for this time of year, and it could cause significant damage with up to 3 feet of rain expected. So, the big eye doesn't tell us much about the storm's strength, but it sure is interesting!
