Storms and Flood Threat in Northeast Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio, USASunday, April 5, 2026
A cold front will push through Northeast Ohio on Saturday, bringing a mix of high winds, possible tornadoes and more rain that could worsen river flooding. The National Weather Service says the whole area faces a slight chance of severe storms, so scattered strong weather is possible as the front moves in during the evening. Storms that form later could tighten quickly, giving gusty winds that might damage property and a chance for isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain is also on the cards, which could add to already swollen rivers and cause local flooding in some places. Rivers across North Central and Northeast Ohio are still above flood stage, so officials urge people to keep an eye on any new flood warnings as the evening rolls in.
Saturday’s day starts warm and breezy, with temperatures around 79°F and gusts near 30 mph before the storms hit. Overnight rain could reach about three‑quarters of an inch in some spots, especially where thunderstorms are strongest. After the front passes, temperatures will drop sharply into the 40s for the night and stay in the lower 50s by Sunday afternoon. Strong winds are expected to continue through Sunday. Early next week will bring cooler air, with chances of rain on Monday and a brief mix of rain and snow late Monday night into Tuesday. The snowfall will be light, with little or no accumulation. Midweek should see drier and warmer weather again, with temperatures climbing into the upper 50s on Wednesday and reaching the upper 60s by Thursday and Friday.
