Storms Unleash Tornadoes in Houston: Damage and Tragedy

Houston's weather turned wild again on Saturday, December 28, with severe storms causing widespread damage and one tragic death. This marked the second occurrence of tornadoes in just three days. Meteorologists have reported nine tornadoes, and confirmation is awaited from the National Weather Service. Let's take a closer look at the devastation. The storm started in Brookshire and moved through Katy. A mobile home park and brick buildings suffered damage, along with roofs of homes, and even cars were flipped over. Fortunately, no injuries were reported here. Moving on, a tornado was spotted near the intersection of Spring Cypress Road and Highway 290 in Cypress, but no damage was noted. The storm then marched towards The Woodlands and Spring, causing significant damage. Mobile homes were destroyed, brick homes had severe roof damage, and a fire station was hit. Debris was scattered all over.

The tornado's path continued from Alvin to Liverpool, specifically the Hillcrest neighborhood. Multiple homes were destroyed, and schools along Mustang Road in Alvin faced major damage. Large trees were downed, and sadly, one person died and four were injured. Debris lined State Highway 35. The storm didn't stop there. It moved from Dickinson to Bacliff, causing severe damage to homes, especially in Dickinson. A home in Bacliff had roof damage. The tornado then crossed Galveston and Trinity Bay. It's not common for tornadoes to keep their strength over water, meteorologists noted. Finally, a tornado hit Chambers County, between Anahuac and Smith Point. A car was thrown near Smith Point, with possible injuries. Power lines were downed on Highway 124, causing both northbound and southbound closures near High Island.
