Stormy Days Ahead: East Coast Braces for Winds and Rain
Northeast USAWednesday, December 11, 2024
The strongest winds could reach near hurricane force along the coastline. High Wind Warnings are in effect between New York City and Boston. These winds could knock down trees and power lines, causing power outages. Christmas decorations that aren’t secured properly might not make it through the storm.
Major airports in the Northeast are already seeing delays, and these are expected to get worse on Wednesday and Thursday. The hazardous weather should move out by midday Thursday, leaving behind a chilly air mass for the rest of the week.
In the Mid-Atlantic, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday. While widespread flooding isn’t expected, some areas with poor drainage could have issues.
Over by the Great Lakes, lake-effect snow is expected to return, with communities east of Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and Lake Michigan getting at least 10 to 20 inches of snow. This will make travel difficult from Thursday into Friday.
