Stormy Nights in Oklahoma: How the State Prepares for Nature's Wrath
Oklahoma City, USASunday, November 3, 2024
Interstate 35 near Forest Park had to close most of its northbound lanes due to flooding. The Oklahoma City Fire Department dealt with several vehicles that got flooded because of the heavy rain.
Around 1:20 a. m. , the weather service alerted everyone about a severe thunderstorm with a tornado moving towards Midwest City and Tinker Air Force Base. This prompted the University of Oklahoma in Norman to send out a shelter-in-place warning to students and staff.
Nighttime tornadoes are known to be more dangerous than daytime ones because people might be asleep and unaware of the danger. With this year being particularly active for tornadoes in the US, there's extra concern. Spring and summer fire up most thunderstorms, but a second wave hits in fall and winter when cold and warm air masses clash.
