Sunny Days Ahead, but Keep an Eye on the Weather
Columbia, S.C., USATuesday, February 4, 2025
The transition from warm to cool and back to warm is all due to the movement of air masses. For those unfamiliar, cold air mass into the region blocks the passage of warm air. When another warm air mass arrives, the cold air is squeezed out. Is it birthday cake or is it thunder? Answer: It is neither because the warm air masses will continue to roll in, and we’re in for some hot temperatures for about the next week, with lots of clouds and rain.
The change in weather is due to something called cold air damming. This is where the cold air mass is blocked by the Appalachian Mountains, which is why it is also going to be colder in the north. Expect clouds to roll in in the mid to upper 40s.
Another cause for a change in weather is a strong high-pressure system which will push southwards. This will mean a cool evening for Wednesday with a chance for rain in the evening.
This pattern will continue for the next week. Expect rain for the next week, especially towards the end of the day. Be sure to check your local weather forecast to keep updated on the latest weather conditions.
