Surprising Twin Shootings in Deep Ellum Leave One Dead and Five Hurt
A violent shooting unfolded at the corner of Commerce Street and Malcolm X Boulevard early Tuesday night, leaving three individuals wounded. Police responded before 10:30 p.m., located the victims, and transported them to a nearby hospital where they are expected to recover.
Later that evening, two additional people were taken in private vehicles to the same medical facility. Investigators suspect these injuries resulted from the same burst of gunfire, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage while interviewing witnesses to determine if any of the injured were acquainted.
The initial attack appears to have stemmed from a melee among several individuals. Some of the wounded were merely passing by and became caught in the crossfire.
Shortly after the first scene was secured, officers heard another gunshot at 12:30 a.m. The second blast occurred near the La Tardeada Club on Elm Street, where a 26‑year‑old security guard was struck in the chest while escorting someone out of the venue. He was transported by police to a nearby hospital and died there, with officials believing he was shot from very close range.
The department has arrested one suspect and recovered a firearm, but it is still under investigation whether he fired the shots.
Both scenes have been cleaned up, and the investigations continue. Several injured individuals remain in treatment at Baylor University Medical Center.
