Sweet Treats Invade Downtown Elgin: Crepes and More on the Menu!

In downtown Elgin, a new dessert haven called Stop n Dip has just opened its doors. This isn't your ordinary ice cream shop—it's offering a unique mix of crepes, fruit kabobs, and gelato that's catching everyone's attention. Co-owners Mohanned Alali and Belal Baninaser decided to bring something fresh to the city, and the grand opening proved they've hit the sweet spot. Elgin is known for its historic charm, but the downtown area is now getting a modern twist with these sweet treats. The menu is loaded with creative options like crepes stuffed with Nutella and chocolate, marshmallows, or even turned into a delicious crepe fettuccini. If you're in the mood for something fruity, their chocolate-drizzled fruit kabobs are a must-try. But it's not just about the desserts. Stop n Dip also serves up Turkish coffee, chai tea, and a variety of fruit drinks and milkshakes. One of their standout specialties is the pistachio fettuccine—a crepe cut to resemble pasta, topped with pistachio gelato and a pistachio spread. It's a unique combination that's hard to resist.

Stop n Dip is actually the sister business to Shawarma Stop, another popular eatery owned by Alali and Baninaser. Both businesses are located on 13 Douglas Ave., and Shawarma Stop has been thriving since its opening in June. It’s even started catering to local businesses and organizations. Regulars of Shawarma Stop, Octavius Kemper and Chris Banks, recently stumbled upon the grand opening of Stop n Dip. They were quick to try the gelato samples and found the coffee and banana flavors to be amazing. Kemper and Banks are excited about the new dining options downtown, which they believe will bring more people to the area. Jennifer Fukala, the executive director of the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin, welcomed the new business, mentioning that Elgin is ready for something new. With Stop n Dip joining the scene, there's no doubt that the city's food landscape is evolving for the better.
