Tanner Wall: The Star Who Shines On and Off the Field
A Double Threat: Football and Academics
Tanner Wall, a standout safety for BYU, has once again proven his excellence both on the field and in the classroom. He was recently named a First Team Academic All-American for the second year in a row by College Sports Communicators. This achievement is particularly notable as Wall is only the second player in BYU history to earn this honor multiple times.
Academic Excellence
Wall's dedication to education is evident in his impressive academic record. He graduated from BYU's finance program with a 3.86 GPA and is now pursuing an MBA at the Marriott School of Business. His commitment to learning is driven by a desire to make a positive impact on others, a value he shares with his alma mater.
On-Field Dominance
On the field, Wall has been a key player for the Cougars. As a senior in 2025, he recorded 66 total tackles and four interceptions, including a crucial interception against rival Utah and another returned for a touchdown against TCU. His performance has earned him numerous accolades, including:
- All-Big 12 honors
- Phil Steele All-America Honorable Mention
- Finalist for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which recognizes outstanding community service.
A Remarkable Journey
Wall's journey to success is even more remarkable considering he started as a walk-on receiver and later switched to safety. He has made 30 total starts at safety for the Cougars, with the team going 25-5 in his starts. His leadership and skill have made him a valuable asset to the team.
Community Involvement
Beyond his athletic and academic achievements, Wall is also known for his community involvement. He has been mentoring international students in the BYU Pathway program, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community.
Joining Elite Company
With his latest honor, Wall has joined an elite group of BYU players who have earned First Team Academic All-American status. This includes notable figures like Steve Young, Virgil Carter, and Ryan Denney. Wall's achievements are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the values instilled in him by his education and football program.
Preparing for the Next Chapter
Currently, Wall is training in Florida as he prepares for the April NFL draft. With a supportive family by his side, including his wife, Corinne, who is expecting their first child this summer, Wall is ready to take on the next chapter of his life.
