Taylor Swift's high-profile endorsement of Kamala Harris may have brought attention to the vice president's campaign, but a new poll suggests it may not have had the desired impact. The poll found that 76% of likely voters say Swift's endorsement does not make a difference in their level of enthusiasm for Harris's candidacy, while 9% say it makes them more enthusiastic, and 13% say it makes them less enthusiastic. Swift's endorsement came after weeks of speculation and was accompanied by a reference to comments made by Ohio Senator JD Vance, who described leading Democrats as "a bunch of childless cat ladies." However, experts say that Swift's endorsement is unlikely to have a significant impact on the election. "While Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris—and her backhanded response to JD Vance's denigration of female cat owners—has caught the headlines, it is unlikely to cause a considerable surge in Harris's electability," said Dafydd Townley, who teaches American politics at the University of Portsmouth. Instead, the poll suggests that Swift's endorsement may actually hurt Harris's chances. The survey found that 26% of Gen Z voters are "less likely" or "significantly less likely" to vote for a candidate backed by Swift. This could be due to Swift's reputation as a celebrity endorser, with some voters seeing her as more focused on her own image than on the issues. However, Thomas Gift, a political scientist who heads the Centre of U.S. Politics at University College London, believes that Swift's influence, particularly among young voters, could still have an impact on the margins.
