Tech Workers Walk Out on Musk's Government Overhaul
WASHINGTON, USATuesday, February 25, 2025
The workers who left had been part of a group called the United States Digital Service. This group was created after problems with the healthcare website during Obama's time in office. They had been working on important projects, like modernizing Social Security and helping veterans. But many of them were fired recently, which the remaining workers said made things less safe for everyone.
The workers who quit said they wouldn't help Musk's team cut down on important government services. They felt that Musk's plans were too extreme and could hurt a lot of people. Musk, on the other hand, has been very confident about his plans. He even showed off a chainsaw at a political event, saying it was for cutting through bureaucracy.
Musk's team has been trying to keep some technical talent, but many of the people who were let go were in roles like design and management. One engineer who was fired said he thought he was let go because he supported a Democratic politician and was critical of Musk. This shows that there might be more to Musk's plans than just improving government technology.
