Temporary Greens Take Over Michigan Golf Course

The University of Michigan’s golf course is switching to temporary putting areas for the next few weeks while teams work on fixing several damaged greens. Work will start in early August and will close three or four putting greens at a time. While repairs happen, players can use makeshift target zones set up in the fairways. The project should finish by mid‑August.

Earlier this month, staff noticed a sudden change in the color of the putting surfaces. The greens had turned a lighter brown, and officials think someone may have caused the damage. They are still hopeful that the greens will recover in the long run. The course sits across from Michigan Stadium and is considered one of the best public courses in the state. It ranked 13th on Golfweek’s 2026 list of top Michigan public courses. Opened in 1931, the course was designed by famed architect Alister MacKenzie.
