Texas Aims to Ban THC Products Next Year

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick recently announced that the state Senate will push for a ban on all forms of consumable tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products during the next legislative session. This move comes as a response to concerns about the growing number of retailers exploiting loopholes in the current hemp law to sell products with potentially dangerous levels of THC. The Senate's top priority bill, designated as Senate Bill 3, will be carried by State Senator Charles Perry, who previously led the effort to legalize hemp in Texas.

Patrick argues that the current hemp market lacks necessary regulations, posing health risks, especially to minors. The Texas hemp industry, however, contends that banning delta-8 and delta-9 products would harm their business and the state's economy. The Legislature is set to reconvene on January 14, 2024.
