Texas Longhorns March to the Final Four
Tampa, Florida, USATuesday, April 1, 2025
This is not the first time the Longhorns have made it to the Final Four. The last time they were there, in 2003, they were coached by Hall of Famer Jody Conradt. They lost to UConn in the national semifinals that year. Now, under coach Vic Schaefer, the Longhorns are hoping to add a second national championship to their one win in 1986.
The Longhorns will face South Carolina in the national semifinals. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. South Carolina is currently favored to win, but the Longhorns have shown they can compete at a high level. This matchup is significant because it will be the first time two SEC teams have faced each other in the national semifinals since 2017.
The SEC is having a big year, with teams in both the men's and women's national championship games. This is the seventh time the conference has achieved this feat, and it highlights the strength of the SEC in college basketball.
The Longhorns' defense has been a key factor in their success this season. They forced TCU into 21 turnovers while committing just eight of their own. This defensive prowess has been a hallmark of their season, as they held Tennessee to their second-lowest point total of the season in the Sweet 16.
