Texas Power: Winter Storms May Cause Blackouts
Austin, USASaturday, November 9, 2024
One expert, Doug Lewin, thinks the state should focus more on energy efficiency. He said if Texas prioritized this, it could lower the risk of blackouts. The issue is big because a major storm could create power demand beyond what the grid can handle.
Another report from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation warned that Texas might face big energy shortages if hit by a 2021-like storm again. They suggested Texas connect to the larger U. S. grid, but that's not popular with state leaders who fear federal control.
Lewin thinks the ERCOT report reflects reality. He's been saying for years that Texas needs to address energy efficiency to be better prepared.
