Starting in the 2026-27 school year, Texas is introducing a new education program called the Texas Education Freedom Accounts. This program operates like a voucher system, allowing parents to use state funds for private school or homeschooling.
Program Details
- Funding:
- Up to $10,500 for private school
- Up to $2,000 for homeschooling
Up to $30,000 for families with disabled students
Application Opening Date: February 4
Meetings and Locations
The Texas Educational Agency is holding meetings to explain the program and assist parents with the application process. The first meetings are scheduled in North Texas.
- Dallas: February 7 at the Shops at RedBird
- Fort Worth: January 31 at the McFadden Science Center
- San Antonio: February 1 (rescheduled due to bad weather)
- Other Cities: McAllen, Lubbock, Houston, and Tyler
Participating Schools
Over 1,100 private schools have signed up to accept the funds, with more than 300 of these schools located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
This program marks a significant change in how Texas funds education.
