Do Kwon, a South Korean entrepreneur known for his cryptocurrency ventures, has been sent to the United States from Montenegro. The move happened after Montenegro's justice ministry agreed to a US extradition request but rejected one from South Korea. Kwon is the founder of Terraform Labs in Singapore, which faced a major crisis when its stablecoin, TerraUSD, lost its value. This led to huge losses for investors worldwide, estimated to be around $400 billion across the crypto sector. Back in March 2023, Kwon and another South Korean were arrested in Montenegro while attempting to leave for Dubai using fake passports from Costa Rica. Montenegro had been facing a legal tussle over Kwon's extradition, with both South Korea and the US wanting him. Kwon has already served time in Montenegro for passport fraud.

The US has charged Kwon with fraud related to the TerraUSD incident. This stablecoin was designed to stay at $1 by being linked to stable assets like the dollar. However, it failed, leading to a significant drop in value for both TerraUSD and its partner currency, Luna. This event triggered a broader crypto market crash. Investors globally faced heavy losses as they hurried to pull out their funds. This "cryptocrash" had a domino effect, affecting other cryptocurrencies.
