Five unnamed contestants are alleging that MrBeast's production company and Amazon Studios created a toxic and hostile environment, which laid the groundwork for sexual harassment. The production guide, "How to succeed in MrBeast Production", is said to encourage obscenities and direct staff to help the talent "be idiots". The contestants claim they were forced to endure unsafe conditions with limited access to medical care, food, and water, and were not paid a fair wage.

The lawsuit claims that the contestants are considered employees, not contestants, and are seeking fair compensation for their work. This raises questions about the definition of an employee and the responsibilities that come with it. "You can call them whatever you want to, but if they meet the definition of an employee, it doesn't matter what you title them," says Lizelle Brandt, the plaintiffs' attorney. "Our argument is that they are employees under California law." The controversy surrounding MrBeast's empire is not new. In the past, he has faced allegations of racism and inappropriate comments.
