The Education System's Socialist Shift: Have We Lost Our Way?
United StatesMonday, September 16, 2024
Education institutions have also perpetuated this myth. Columbia University professor Mohamed Abdou has advocated for "revolutionary alternatives" to capitalism, while Marquette University professor Jodi Melamed linked individual liberty to "capitalist violence." Spelman College's summer reading list included a book that promotes anticapitalist propaganda and equates slavery and capitalism to the rise of American power. California Polytechnic State University offers a "Whiteness Accountability Space" program that equates capitalism to oppression.
As Americans, it's essential to be horrified at the prospect of socialism, which endangers the very freedoms and prosperity that have made America the most exceptional nation in the world. However, if we want to reclaim our education system and teach the facts about socialism and free markets, we must first acknowledge the role that educators have played in shaping our society's values.
Capitalism has lifted millions out of poverty, while socialism has led to poverty, famine, and death. By returning to teaching the facts, good and bad, and nurturing critical thinking skills, American citizens will see the light and reject the socialist ideology that has infiltrated America. The future of our republic depends on it.
