The Elephant in the Room: Why Science and Humanities Need Each Other
Chicago, USASaturday, January 4, 2025
The humanities add depth to science. Metaphors in biology hint at future research paths. Even Darwin's work has godly undertones. We need both to avoid missing the elephant in the room. In the past, big thinkers like Aristotle and da Vinci blended humanities and science. Now, teams specialize in market-driven research, not truth.
We can fix this in higher education. Teach students that science and humanities aren’t so different. Show how they influence each other. Break down walls between fields. Old university structures divide knowledge, creating problems. If we merge these worlds, education can tackle big issues. Maybe that's why colleges face relevance crises.
