Recently, two attempts to recall members of the D.C. Council due to rising crime rates in the District of Columbia have failed.         The group trying to recall Allen reported submitting signatures, though they fell short of the required number to qualify for the ballot. Surprisingly, the group aiming to recall Nadeau didn't even submit any signatures by the deadline in October. This is a stark contrast to their earlier statements about facing significant challenges.

        Allen, representing Ward 6, was around 700 signatures short of meeting the goal by August. Both Allen and Nadeau will be up for reelection in November 2026. Meanwhile, another council member, Trayon White, is under scrutiny after being indicted on federal bribery charges this year. The council has voted to investigate White, who remains in the race for another term despite these issues.

        When asked about the backlash against her crime policies, Nadeau admitted she needed to adjust her language. She stated that while she supports police efforts and recognizes their limitations, no single council member can solve the problem alone. "I wish I could — I would have by now," she said.
