The Goat-Headed Figure Returns to Concord
Concord, USAWednesday, December 18, 2024
The statue, adorned with purple lilacs and an apple, stands as a symbol of empathy, bodily autonomy, and respect for scientific facts. However, not everyone is pleased with its presence. Some see it as an attempt to drive an anti-religious agenda. Mayor Byron O. Champlin and Cornerstone Action, a conservative Christian group, have both voiced their criticism. But others, like Abbigail Rollins, the owner of Witchlight Oracle Apothecary, welcome the display as a sign of religious pluralism.
Concord officials found themselves in a tricky situation. They could either grant a permit for the display or ban all holiday displays. They chose the former to avoid potential legal issues. The Satanic Temple sees this as a challenge to those who want to impose a single religious view in public spaces. The display, titled "Un-Concord, " is meant to spark critical thinking and promote religious pluralism.
