The Hidden Impact: Breastsfeeding's Connection to Partner Violence
Friday, February 7, 2025
The nightmare doesn't stop at the physical and emotional tolls of abuse. Questions arise about the breastfeeding and the health of the baby. Despite the increasing awareness about intimate partner violence there's an ongoing consensus about not much work being done.
Others say that a mother is forced to leave and sometimes isolate herself and her baby from society. This has to have an impact on how she feeds her child. We need to know how much this affects the baby. Let's turn this mindset around. If a baby is cared for well and fed with love, that child will have the foundation for a bright and healthy future. If this is not the case for millions of babies and their mothers, then the effects downstream could be disastrous.
What if the root cause is intimate partner violence. What if we start there. Remember
the first step toward healing is awareness. Every mother deserves a safe and healthy environment for herself and her child. If we start anew, this will be the first step in a long journey to better understand breastfeeding's connection to partner violence.
