The Importance of Arts in School: Why They Matter More Than Ever
USAThursday, November 21, 2024
Research shows that kids who participate in arts education do better academically and are more engaged in school. They also develop skills like empathy and creativity, which are vital for today's world. Arts activities can even bridge divides between people, as seen in Afghanistan where teens from different backgrounds found common ground through the arts.
However, the arts are often the first to be cut when budgets are tight. This is because they're not always seen as essential by policymakers. But what if we, as parents, demanded that the arts be treated as a basic part of education? We could shift the narrative and equip our children with skills for a healthier, more peaceful future.
