She used her platform to spread harmful stereotypes about the gay community, leading to the ordinance's repeal. However, this victory came at a cost. Her actions sparked boycotts and protests, including a famous pie-throwing incident. As her reputation soured, her show business career declined, and she eventually filed for bankruptcy.
