The Lowline Hotel: Charleston’s New Style Stay

Charleston, South Carolina, USAWednesday, March 11, 2026

A historic hotel on Upper King Street is getting a fresh look and a new name this summer.
The former Hyatt Place, a 191‑room property adjacent to the Hyatt House, will reopen as The Lowline Hotel after a full makeover.

  • Acquisition – Highline Hospitality Partners bought the two hotels for $113 million in 2024.
  • New Identity – The Lowline will become a “lifestyle” destination featuring 197 rooms, a bar, a restaurant, a garden, and a private dining room that even hosts a golf simulator. It will also offer eight thousand square feet of event space.
  • Neighboring Property – The Hyatt House will continue to focus on long‑term stays.
  • Name Inspiration – The new name honors the Lowcountry Lowline, a future two‑mile park and trail that will stretch across Charleston’s peninsula.
  • Brand Alignment – By joining JdV by Hyatt, the hotel joins a group that celebrates the “joy of life.”
  • Heritage & Modernity – Highline aims to blend Charleston’s heritage with the expectations of contemporary travelers.
  • Historic Roots – The building was part of a historic pair that opened in 2015 as Charleston’s first dual‑branded hotel.
  • Next Steps – Highline will seek city approval for new signage on March 11 and expects to reopen in early summer.
  • Other Projects – A nearby 175‑room development also eyed the Lowline name, but it remains a placeholder.
