Rodney Childers, Harvick's former crew chief, shared his perspective on the team's collapse. In an interview, he revealed that he never expected to lose his entire team, let alone 300 employees. "I expected to still have a home to be able to race and to do the things that we have done in the last ten and a half years," he said. The veteran crew chief's words paint a picture of a team that was suddenly left without a purpose.

But what led to this downfall? Some might attribute it to mismanagement, while others might point to a lack of interest and attention from the owners. Whatever the reason, the result is clear: SHR is closing its doors, and the employees are left to pick up the pieces.

One of the biggest challenges for Childers and the crew was to stay focused until the end of the 2024 season. He did find a new role at Spire Motorsports, leading the charge for the No. 7 team. However, he wasn't able to take his entire team with him.

"We had a lot of conversation of where we can take the whole group and the realistic part of it is that it's not a very good option right? I mean it's not gonna happen," he said. The crew chief's words highlight the difficulty of moving an entire team, especially one that has been together for so long.

Despite the challenges, Childers and his team are focused on getting a monumental result for Josh Berry in 2024. The rookie driver has shown promise in his rookie year, and a win would be a great sendoff for the veteran crew chief.
