It's been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over for a major overhaul of Meta Avatars. Recently, a popup message began circulating on the Meta Horizon mobile app, promising a new look for avatars "landing soon." UploadVR was able to confirm the existence of the popup, which hints at a significant revamp of the avatar system. The idea of a Meta Avatar makeover isn't new. Mark Zuckerberg first announced the concept at Meta Connect 2022, promising a major update in 2023. Although that deadline didn't quite pan out, it seems the project has been making steady progress behind the scenes. One of the most notable changes already spotted is the addition of legs to Meta Avatars. This update was rolled out last year for Horizon Home and Horizon Worlds, and it's a significant improvement over the original upper-body-only design. The SDK for third-party apps also got legs in December, but for now, they're not animated, meaning developers would need to implement this feature manually. The question on everyone's mind is when we can expect to see the new and improved Meta Avatars. While there's no official word just yet, it's likely that we'll see the big reveal at Connect 2024, taking place on Wednesday and Thursday.
