The Mystery of Skynet-1A: A Satellite on the Move
Americas, USAMonday, November 11, 2024
In the 1970s, people tracked Skynet-1A closely. It was in a geostationary arc at about 40 East. But now, it's at 105 West, much further away. Satellites usually drift a little, but Skynet-1A has moved a lot. This means someone, or something, gave it a push. But who? And when? Records from the mid-1970s are missing, making it hard to find answers.
The UK and the USA worked together on Skynet-1A. Maybe someone from one of these countries moved it. Perhaps it happened during a handover between the UK and the USA. But it's all guesswork. The satellite could cause trouble in its new orbit. It might bump into other satellites, causing damage. Then, the question of who moved it could become important.
