The Power of Breath: Exercise for Chronic Disease Patients
Tuesday, January 7, 2025
The good news is, these breathing exercises seem to help patients endure more when it comes to breathing. Picture this: you're climbing stairs, and you don't feel out of breath as quickly as before. However, it's not clear yet if these exercises also help improve the amount of oxygen you can use during exercise, boost your peak work rate, increase how far you can walk in 6 minutes, or ease feelings of breathlessness and tiredness.
So, while we know breathing exercises can improve respiratory endurance, we're still figuring out who benefits the most and exactly how it works. More high-quality studies are needed to answer these questions and to understand if these exercises work best on their own or as an extra part of regular lung rehab programs.
