Springfield, Ohio, USAWednesday, September 18, 2024
Harris also spoke out against the racist tropes and bomb threats targeting Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. She described the fear and uncertainty that these threats have brought to the community, saying, "It's a crying shame. I mean, my heart breaks for this community." She emphasized the importance of elected officials using their platforms to promote unity and understanding, rather than division and hate.
In response to a question about young Black male voters who are considering voting for Trump, Harris acknowledged that many Black men feel left out of the economy and are seeking a candidate who can address their concerns. She emphasized the need for policymakers to focus on creating economic opportunities that benefit all communities, saying, "I think it's very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody's pocket. Black men are like any other voting group – you gotta earn the vote."
Harris also highlighted her commitment to increasing access to funding for small businesses, extending small-business tax deductions to $50,000, and eliminating medical debt from credit scores. She emphasized the need for policymakers to address the systemic barriers that prevent many Black entrepreneurs from achieving success, saying, "We need to speak truth about the generational impact of our history in terms of the generational impact of slavery, the generational impact of redlining, of Jim Crow."
