The Powerhouse of Light: Unveiling the ZEUS Laser
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USATuesday, May 20, 2025
ZEUS is housed in a big facility. It is the size of a school gymnasium. It is at the university’s Gérard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science. ZEUS is the successor to the HERCULES laser. HERCULES reached 300 terawatts in 2007. ZEUS was announced in 2022. It is double the power of other lasers in the US. It can eventually deliver up to 3 petawatts. But it is not the most powerful laser in the world. The laser at the European ELI-NP laboratory in Romania is more powerful. It peaks at 10 petawatts.
The ZEUS laser is a big deal. It is a tool for serious science. It is not for show. It is for experiments. It is for pushing the boundaries of what we know. It is for making new discoveries. It is for changing the world. It is a powerhouse of light. It is a beacon of knowledge. It is a symbol of human achievement. It is a testament to our curiosity. It is a reminder of our potential. It is a call to action. It is a challenge to dream bigger. To reach further. To explore deeper. To understand more. To create better. To innovate faster. To inspire greater. To achieve more. To be more.
