The Right Fit: New Study Compares Flange Sizing Methods

Pumping is a familiar routine for many parents in the U. S. , but it can lead to discomfort and worries about milk production. The size of the pump's breast shield, or flange, plays a significant role in these issues. Unfortunately, the guidance on choosing the right flange size can be mixed, causing confusion among parents. Until recently, no study had compared different flange sizing methods for comfort and milk output. This pilot study aimed to change that by evaluating the Flange FITS™ guide against traditional methods. The results could revolutionize how parents select flange sizes, making pumping more comfortable and effective.

The research focused on two main aspects: comfort during pumping and the amount of milk produced. Parents tested both the FITS guide and traditional sizing methods to see which approach worked best for them. The FITS guide offered tailored recommendations based on individual factors, promising a more precise fit. The study found that the FITS guide generally provided better comfort and increased milk output. This suggests that using a guide personalized to individual needs could significantly enhance the pumping experience. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings on a larger scale.
