The Rise of the Rookies: 2024 Quarterbacks Step Up

In the 2024 NFL draft, six quarterbacks were chosen in the first twelve picks. Now, five of these rookies are getting their shot at the starting job. Caleb Williams of the Bears, Jayden Daniels of the Commanders, and Bo Nix of the Broncos were first-string from Week 1. Drake Maye, drafted by the Patriots, started his first game in Week 6. Michael Penix Jr. , picked by the Falcons, is set to start in Week 16. Only J. J. McCarthy of the Vikings is sidelined due to a knee injury.

Penix has already seen some action, making brief appearances in losses to the Seahawks and Broncos. He's thrown five passes, completing three, with a passer rating of 83. 7. This rating is notable because it's higher than what Kirk Cousins, the previous starter, had in his last five games. Penix doesn't have to be amazing; he just needs to be a bit better than Cousins has been lately.
