The Role of Enjoyment and Resilience in English Learning
ChinaThursday, January 2, 2025
First, they asked 534 students to fill out a survey. Then, they had 15 students share their personal stories. The results showed that students who enjoyed learning English were more motivated and felt less burnt out. Interestingly, grit played a big role in connecting enjoyment, burnout, and motivation. Enjoyment boosted students' resilience, which helped them stick with it even when things got hard.
But burnout could hurt motivation, showing how important it is for students to feel emotionally well. When students felt exhausted, their motivation often dropped. But positive experiences could help them bounce back.
This study teaches us that feeling good about learning English and being resilient can help students stay committed. Educators should aim to create fun learning environments and help students build grit to combat burnout.
