The Secret Life of a Doormat
Chile, SantiagoTuesday, September 24, 2024
At home, Mercedes is lost in a sea of her own mediocrity. Her husband, Efrain, is a bumbling photographer, their sons are idle, and her daily routine is a never-ending cycle of drudgery. But when she enters Maria's apartment, she finds a world of calm and luxury. The plants are watered, the books are read, and the bed is (thankfully) quiet. It's a fantasy come true, especially for someone who's tired of being everyone's doormat.
As Mercedes explores Maria's life, she starts to construct her own identity, donning Maria's clothes and embracing her more free-spirited nature. Her friends from the convent, including an older indigenous woman who committed a crime of passion, share their stories, and Mercedes finds solace in their conversations. Even when the stakes get high, and Maria's past comes back to haunt her, Mercedes remains steadfast, a beacon of optimism in a world that often seems determined to crush her.
